Chelu grew up in Campana, about 50 miles from Argentina’s capital of Buenos Aires. She got a degree in Advertising/Public Relations and worked various marketing jobs in the city for a few years but realized that being in an office was not what she wanted for her life.
In this video, I spent two weeks traveling out to Peru and kiting up and down the coast. Starting at a spot called Paracas about 250km south of Lima and heading up northwards for about 1000km to a wave spot called Pacasmayo.
Following four days of marginal wind and waves, the action kicked off on October 23 — mid-way through the 10-day holding period. As the surf began firing at four- to seven-feet, 24 men and 12 women from 15 different countries duked it out over the following three days for the coveted tour stop title.
Bringing the second stop of the World Championship Kite Surfing Tour to a close, day seven of the 10-day holding period delivered another dose of world-class conditions and next-level action. Throughout the final 12 heats, competitors rode once again predominantly strapless, drawing lines comparable to high-level surfing.
Amidst another day of prime wind and waves in Northern Peru, contest directors made excellent use of the epic conditions at the main staging area at El Faro (the lighthouse), completing 18 heats, making it all the way up to the Quarter Finals. As head-high sets wrapped around the point all day, once again, riders predominantly kite surfed unstrapped.
After four days of waiting for solid conditions to arrive in Northern Peru, the Pacasmayo Kite Surf Pro finally got underway late this morning. Running nearly until sundown in the 15- to 20-knot winds and five- to seven-foot waves (faces), Men’s and Women’s Round 1, and Men’s Round 2 were completed at the second KSP World Championship Kite Surfing Tour stop.
Despite a favorable forecast, the wind never filled in quite enough to get the Pacasmayo Kite Surf Pro off the ground today. As head-high sets rolled in throughout the morning and afternoon, the KSP crew kept optimistic and re-assessed the conditions every 30 minutes in hopes of the wind ramping up just a notch.
Three days into the 10-day holding period of the Pacasmayo Kite Surf Pro, KSP officials called a third consecutive lay day for the second stop of the World Championship Kite Surfing Tour.
Waiting for solid waves to arrive on Saturday, KSP organizers called a second consecutive lay day today at the Pacasmayo Kite Surf Pro — the second stop of the World Championship Kite Surfing Tour.
Today marks the first day of the 10-day holding period of the Pacasmayo Kite Surf Pro, the second stop of the 2011 KSP World Championship Kite Surfing Tour. With swell forecasted to ramp up later this week, KSP officials called a lay day today.
This is my first update from Peru and so far it has lived up to everything people said it is. Chuck and I left Hawaii on October 4th and it took us over 35 hours to get from HNL to Lobitios, Peru. When we were in L.A.X we had a small world moment and ran into Felix Pevic who was on his way back to Hawaii from the Mauritius KSP event.
I chose Peru for this holiday in October as my partner on the trip, Holt Alden, an aspiring kiter, was a surfer who is as stoked getting tubed now as he was 30 years ago as a teenager. I am goofy foot so the thought of experiencing the endless left point breaks that I have heard so much about had me excited to try out my recently conquered strapless board riding skills.
Our special guest this week is Gary Siskar, the new brand manager for Liquid Force’s kiteboarding division. Gary had extensive experience in surf and snow with such companies as Burton and OP before coming on board with Liquid Force.
