Lord of the Wind 2013 is rocking with registration growing daily. Due to demand, course racing has now been added to the event, adding an additional level of excitement.

The first test for the chicken bikes came when we stopped at the Mexican consulate on our way out of town. As we pulled up a guard actually opened the razor wire gate for us thinking we were delivering food to employees. When we asked where we go for visas he simply asked, “No pollo?” and kicked us out.

Within an hour drive from my home are eight wave riding spots, two thermal wind spots that crank with clockwork reliability, and two long jetties that provide butter-flat riding conditions. In a normal year more than half of my kiteboarding sessions are in waves that range in height from waist to well overhead.

The 2013 Lord of the Wind Showdown is off and running, Jan 10 through Jan 15 in Los Barriles Mexico. With the consistent north winds blowing and the warm water, this is the perfect destination for one of the sport’s top competitions.
