Located in the middle of the most popular section of beach in La Ventana, Baja Joe’s resort has become an iconic place in the world of windsurfers and kiteboarders, but it was once just a piece of land covered with shrubs and cacti in an unknown Mexican village.

Strong winds blowing in the bay of Barra Do Cunhau, Brazil welcomed the top ten best kiteboarders in the world for the end of the double eliminations. The Brazilian rider Carlos Madson (BRA, RRD) made an impressive comeback all the way to third place, winning four heats in a row and taking down some of the best riders in the world, one after another.

The first highlight of the day was the heat pairing Kevin Langeree (NED, Naish) and Michael Schitzhofer (AUT, Best) who wanted his revenge from the last event in Germany where he lost in the doubles.

Welcome to Barra do Cunhau, Brazil for the third day of competition and the end of the single eliminations. There were some very close heats due to the presence of the Brazilian champions in the quarter finals. The victories however went to Youri Zoon (NED, Slingshot) in the men’s and Bruna Kajiya (BRA, Flexifoil) in the women’s division.

The start of the single eliminations was expected to be a good day of action as there was a Brazilian rider in almost every single heat for the PKRA tour stop in Barra Do Cunhau, Brazil. Most of the Brazilian riders are unknown and it was a surprise to see their level of riding going down today.

The Kiteboarding World Tour started with Trials for the first day of competition in Barra Do Cunhau, Brazil. With ten Brazilian riders on form to enter the main event together with a lot of international riders, it promised to be a good day of action.

After the completely disappointing month of August (for wind and waves), the Outerbanks was met with hurricane Irene. Although she brought us a little much needed swell in the ocean, she destroyed many parts of Hatteras, Manteo, and sound-side residents and businesses.

Volume 8, Number 4 is the fist issue of the new The Kiteboarder Magazine, the result of months spent rethinking what a kiteboarding magazine should look like.
